URIAH HEEP
Английская группа "Юрай Хип" ("Урия Гип"— отрицательный персонаж романа Диккенса "Дэвид Копперфилд") образовалась в 1969 году.

В первой половине 70-х "Юрай Хип" были одним из самых интересных хард-роковых коллективов в Британии и немногим уступали легендарному "триумвирату" "Блэк Саббат"— "Лед Зеппелин"—"Дип Перпл". Произведения Кена Хенсли (раньше он был основным композитором группы) отличались ярко выраженной тягой к лирике, в них преобладали нежная грусть и какое-то неповторимое сочетание рок-музыки и английских народных баллад. Ранние произведения ансамбля были достаточно сложно аранжированы и вызывали уважение даже среди поклонников эпического арта (кстати, конверты обложек ранних дисков "Юрай Хип" оформлял тот же художник, который работал в этом плане с "Йес", Роджер Дин). Вся продукция группы вплоть до 1976 года отличалась высоким качеством подбора музыкального материала и виртуозностью исполнения. Если первый диск "Юрай Хип" остался почти незамеченным на фоне мощного спрута групп "триумвирата", то начиная с "Солсбери", ансамбль становится международной звездой, настоящей супергруппой, которую к тому же отличал критический подход к политическим и социальным проблемам. Подлинными шедеврами хард-рока стали тот же "Солсбери", "Посмотри на себя", "День рождения чародея", "Возвратимся к фантазии". Немногим уступали им и другие программы "Юрай Хип" раннего периода. Группе особенно везло с бас-гитаристами, почти каждый из которых неизменно назывался в числе самых виртуозных басистов рока. С 1972 по 1974 год чудеса на басгитаре в составе "Юрай Хип" демонстрировал Гэри Тэйн, который умер в 1975 году. На замену Тэйну был принят легендарный басист Джон Уэттон, который прославил свое имя во многих ведущих рок-коллективах. При его участии был записан последний сильный альбом "Юрай Хип" (1975). после чего группа вошла в полосу кризиса. Несмотря на то, что ансамбль продолжал придерживаться выбранной однажды стилистики, его произведения во второй половине 70-х потеряли былую прелесть, песни стали проще, а аранжировки бледнее. В это время из группы уходит замечательный певец Дэвид Байрон, чтобы начать сольную карьеру. Кстати, ни один из участников "Юрай Хип" после расставания с группой так и не сумел достичь успеха. Это относится как к Байрону (он умер в 1985 году в забвении), так и к Тревору Болдеру (он возвратился в группу — см. изменения состава) и к Кенну Хенсли, который расстался с рок-музыкой после выпуска двух малоинтересных сольников и вялой деятельности в составе группы "Блэкфут", и лишь в 1989 году присоединился к "УОСП". В "поздний" период творчества "Юрай Хип" его состав изменялся чрезвычайно часто. В итоге сейчас из оригинального состава в группе остался только гитарист Мик Бокс. Более или менее долго сохраняют сотрудничество с группой также ударник Керслэйк и басист Болдер, остальные "должности" становятся вакантными чуть ли не каждый год. Из работ группы после 1975 года некоторый интерес могут вызвать "Светлячок" (1977), "Завоевание" (1980), "Чудовище (1982) и особенно последний диск "Разгневанная тишина" (1989). Это сильная программа, но если учесть, что путь к ней занял для музыкантов почти пять лет, то особых восторгов не возникает: многие успели уже позабыть, что такое "Юрай Хип". Прочая продукция "позднего" периода группы ничем не выделяется: она откровенно слабая. В 1988 году "Юрай Хип" гастролировали в СССР, после чего на Западе вышел концертный сборник "Сам в Москве" (1988). Фирма "Мелодия" в начале 80-х сделала сюрприз поклонникам группы, выпустив по лицензии альбом "Невинная жертва".

История славной команды запутана страшно, однако,
если посидеть пару-тройку ночей над старыми фолиантами, все становится на свои
места. Это была присказка, а вот вам факты. Коренной лондонец и гитарист Мик
Бокс (8.6.1947 г.) сильно страдал от того, что его банда THE STALKERS не имела
успеха. И это при том, что пел в группе такой опытный вокалист, как Дэвид Байрон
(29.1.1947 г.) - он принимал участие в записи анонимных кавер-альбомов, т.е.
исполнял чужие хиты под чужим именем Гаррик (не Сукачев) и получал денежки на
пропитание. Так продолжалось с 1964 по 1966 г.г., пока THE STALKERS не
преобразовались в SPICE (жалко, что не GIRLS...). Бокс пригласил пару новых
людей - ударника Алекса Напьера и басиста-вокалиста Пола Ньютона. Вот тут пошли
сложности, будьте внимательны - Ньютон пришел из группы THE GODS, в которой
сошлась воедино куча будущих суперстаров: двое будущих "хипов" Кен Хенсли и Ли
Керслейк, будущий гитарист THE ROLLING STONES Мик Тэйлор и басист-вокалист Грег
Лейк, сменивший Ньютона и выступавший позднее в KING CRIMSON и ELP. Ну что,
сложновато? Зато здорово! SPICE в декабре 1968 г. выпустили единственный сингл "What
About The Music/In Love", и группу приметил менеджер Джерри Брон, настоявший на
смене названия.
